What’s New

What’s new on Nevada County Voices:

  • Oct 26, 2009, added Dr. Emmett Miller (and, earlier, Sierra Commons) to the Business section. (But maybe we need to create a Local Self-Actualization section? since right now the Business section is “any blog involving anything anyone does that involves money”, a polyglot assemblage)
  • Aug 7, 2009, added our Locavores, NC Govt news & mtg minutes, and GV City Councilmember Yolanda Cookson’s blog; welcome!
  • July 26, 2009, added the Nevada City Advocate, whose website is now up & running.
  • July 19, 2009, added NCFarmers Market and a spot for Nevada County fires, if any (from the CalFire Current Incidents RSS feed).
  • July 11, 2009, added “local business tweets”, section over in the Business column of Nevada County Voices. (Another heartfelt thank you to @MarshaLanier and @SeeJaneDo for administering the TweetUp kick in the pants that I needed, to jump in!)
This section may also include nonprofits and other stuff that verges on selling of some sort.
Note to reader: there’s no reason you should accept my curating judgment here; once you join Twitter, you can assemble your own page of people’s utterances. So… please do it; Web2.0 is waiting for you.
  • July 10, 2009, added our local Tweets. If you’re local and you twitter on local community-interest topics, and you’d like to be added, let me know – either through Twitter where I’m @ncvoices, or in the suggestion box .
Also I added the Sierra Business Council blog.
  • July 9, 2009, welcome Mayor Reinette Senum!
  • June 30, 2009, welcome Vanessa and Paul Smith (their blogs, Let Your Life Bloom and GreenSmith Consulting, are now in the Business section)
  • June 24, 2009, added Auburn Journal and a Public Servants section (Sierra College trustee Aaron Klein is our trailblazer). I’ve also added a “most recent tweet” for KNCO and KVMR, and have added an “NCVoices editor’s choice” feed pointing to particularly insightful writing, in the “Climate” section. A big thank you to @SeeJaneDo’s Elisa Parker and to @MarshaLanier, for the hands-on introduction to Twitter! I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship…
  • June 22, 2009, added The Union’s most recent tweet, Zuri’s Union and Non-Union blogs, and a place to list online alternatives to Nevada County Voices.
  • June 19, 2009, added NCWeather, #NCTweet, and a general search for all GV/NC Tweets (whether they’re us or not)
  • June 10, 2009, added Cascade Shores Stuff (h/t Dixie) and See Jane Do
  • June 9, 2009, added NC Supes mtg vids (h/t JimH), NECCOBB link (h/t Ingo), over in the Misc section (no feed yet for neccobb, as far as I know.)
  • June 7, 2009, added The Union’s Opinion feed (thanks Zuri!) And I removed, for now, the nascent, neglected Ask Nevada County Voices feature – not only did nobody submit a question, but also I realized I’m really not ready to add more to my plate. (I have questions though…)
  • June 3, 2009, added Twitter (as a link only, alas)
  • June 2, 2009, Welcome Nevada Union Underground! (and thanks Greg, for the suggestion)
  • May 30, 2009, added Freecycle; and Ask Nevada County Voices was conceived and launched today. What do you want to know, about Nevada County? Start with easy questions please…
  • May 25, 2009 – Added URL for The Magic Theatre – thanks Rod! And I’ve added Janaia’s journal.
  • May 1, 2009 – Added feed for I80 detour (20 and 49 is not 80) listserv – for now, it’s in the General aisle.
  • Apr 21, 2009 – Welcome new blog, Sierra Voices – it’s in the General aisle.
  • Apr 20, 2009 – Added KVMR News (past news, not upcoming news) – Thanks & apologies to John B. (and apologies to the rest of you, for my not having added it sooner, since it was available.)
And I hear an “Upcoming news” feed/teaser/email is on the drawing board (along with much other new KVMR stuff).
  • Apr 16, 2009 – Added The Union blogs, including (over in the Films aisle) the Prospector. Thank you Zuri for the nudge and the feeds!
  • Mar 4, 2009 – Refurbished the script. It should be less assaultive on the eye, broken sections now work, and I fixed it so the more prolific bloggers don’t overwhelm the less prolific. Also, the column top now has links to take you down to the desired section w/in that column, where there’s more than one.
  • Feb 14, 2009 – Welcome new blogs – Emmett Miller’s Paradigm Shift and Healing Times Online. And a slightly belated welcome to the Nevada County Unites community on Ning. And I’ve pulled some of the less active blogs off into a separate group, the hibernators. And deep-sixed the comment purgatory…
  • Jan 25, 2009 – Welcome new blog – Jeff Pelline
  • Jan 16, 2009 – Welcome new blogs – NC Green Kiosk, Left Coast Leaner
  • Dec 9, 2008 – Added No. Cal. Hiking Trails blog.
  • Nov 19, 2008 – A new blog, NC Mine Talk.
  • Nov 19, 2008 – “Upcoming KVMR news” returns! Welcome Brian Bahouth and KVMR listeners!
  • Nov 14, 2008 – Added a Comment Purgatory, a repository for comments that didn’t survive moderation on Nevada County blogs and websites. It’s in the far right column, and it needs your contributions. (Unfortunately, the list of “recent Purgatory comments” that you see on NCVoices, or on the sidebar of the Purgatory blog itself, might not be up to date; Blogger’s “recent comments” feed and sidebar display are not terribly reliable, so far.)
  • Nov 12, 2008 – Fixed air quality(PM2.5 – smoke) to display the Grass Valley reading – previously it showed Roseville’s.
  • Nov 9, 2008 – Added Bill Pieper’s “End Of Life Issues” blog to the Weblogs-Misc section of NC Voices. Welcome Bill!
  • Oct 30, 2008 – I’ve added CHP traffic and Yelp (business reviews) in the Misc section. Returning soon, I hope: KVMR news.
  • Oct 9, 2008 – Got a workaround for the broken blogspot feedparser. Let me know if you still run into problems…
  • Sept 25, 2008 – Some stuff is broken!  Sorry!  (1. The “post” links for all blogspot-hosted blogs no longer take you where you want to go (i.e., to the posts).  Workaround: if you see one you want to read, click on the blog’s name (in the column header)  and then, on their blog, scroll down to the post you want.  and 2. NCTV’s “schedule” page is, for now at least, for me, content-free.  Workaround: turn off the TV, go out and talk to flesh-and-blood people.  Steps toward fixing: I’ve (just now – Thurs pm) alerted NCTV to their problem, and I’ve tried posting a note in the feed-normalizer forum at RubyForge about the “wrong links” bug.)
  • Aug 24, 2008 – Added Addict-o-Matic aggregator for Nevada County; to Forums, which has been rechristened “Forums Etc”.
  • Aug 5, 2008 – Saving The Sierra and Knudson’s Sierra Summit are now in the Green column. Also some badly needed housecleaning.
  • Mon Dec 31, 2007 – Added a Green column, for getting cracking to save the planet as we’ve known it. Some conservatism here is badly needed.
  • Sat Dec 29, 2007 – Yubanet redesign, now with comments on stories.
  • Fri Nov 30 – Added a new blog, Rebane’s Ruminations. It’s in the far right column.
  • Fri Oct 26 – Added a disclaimer of sorts to the global warming denialism column over on the far right – there’s too much disinformation floating about unaddressed (and unrecognized, by many) online, and to be aiding and abetting its propagation without providing an effective warning label seemed wrong.
  • Wed Sept 5 – A slightly different look, some behind the scenes improvements (now the html almost validates…) and a well behaved ‘KVMR News’ box
  • Sun Aug 26 – Added KNCO’s news
  • Fri Aug 24 – Pulled a KVMR “upcoming news” feed into Nevada County Voices. (We’re still working the kinks out; it’s off again, for now.)
  • Wed Aug 15 – Added CCAT’s feed; and site address change (becoming ncvoices.us) is planned for tonight.
  • Fri Aug 10 – Site still needs work! Please do not trust it fully.
  • Thurs Aug 9: Renovated the site, and changed its name to NCVoices.org (it had started out singular not plural). The old “About NCVoice”companion blog is still at ncvoice.blogspot.com -I think it’s pretty much obsolete, not sure.
  • Thurs July 26: added an “About NCVoices” link to the site
  • Fri July 20: added URL for County Fire Plan (Draft), which was published today
  • Tue July 17: added Center for the Arts, Social Forum Film Series and proposed fire hazard severity zones
  • Sun July 15 (2007): Added a section with links to local sites without RSS feeds; it’s at the bottom of the page.
